The award ceremony was held at the Casa Milà – La Pedrera in Barcelona, in the presence of collectors, journalists, politicians and patrons of the arts.
It is one of the most prestigious contemporary European art prizes, awarded in the heart of Barcelona.
The International Prize Velázquez & Goya is a mark of recognition awarded to all artists who have distinguished themselves over the years with their artistic research and the stylistic value of their works of art.
The award is intended for painters, sculptors, photographers, video artists, performers and digital artists.
The Casa Milà – La Pedrera – is a building created by the architect Antoni Gaudí commissioned by Pere Milà and Roser Segimon. The name of the building, "Casa Milà", is due to the fact that it was the new residence of the Milà family. The couple lived on the main floor and rented the rest of the apartments. The Casa Milà is Antoni Gaudí's most emblematic civil construction building, both for its constructive and functional innovations and for its ornamental and decorative solutions. This is a total work of art. Known as "La Pedrera" for its external appearance, which resembles an open-air quarry, it presents shapes taken from nature. It was Gaudí's last civil construction work and represented a break with the patterns of his time.
